XRP Ledger nears activation of batch and permission delegation features
Two XRPL amendments aimed at corporate users are in their final voting stage, with mainnet activation expected within about 11 days, according to the XRPL Foundation's community lead.
Key points
- Batch and Permission Delegation amendments have reached the final stage of validator voting on the XRP Ledger.
- About 11 days remain before both features are fully activated on mainnet, per XRPL Foundation community lead Vet.
- Atomic batches, covered by the BatchV1_1 and fixBatchV1_2 amendments, have 85-94% validator support and are expected to activate on 9 October 2026.
- PermissionDelegationV1_1 has 82% support and entered its waiting period, with activation scheduled for 5 October 2026.
- Ripple pioneer Nik Bougalis has returned to work on XRPL core, proposing a move to 64-bit components and the removal of raw pointers.
The XRP Ledger is close to activating two amendments that its backers say will open the network to major corporate use cases. According to Vet, community lead at the XRPL Foundation, the Batch and Permission Delegation amendments have reached the final stage of validator voting, with roughly 11 days left before full activation on mainnet.
The upgrades target barriers that have kept large financial institutions from using XRPL to automate payments and structured transactions. U.Today reports that the XLS-56 feature removes the risk of funds becoming stuck in a commercial settlement when one party fails to meet its obligations. XLS-75 addresses strict banking security requirements by letting organisations distribute operational roles more flexibly.
The first tool is atomic batches, covered by the BatchV1_1 and fixBatchV1_2 amendments. Validator support stands at 85-94%, and activation is expected on 9 October 2026. The feature lets multiple operations be combined into a single, indivisible batch that executes on an all-or-nothing basis.
Final voting stage
The second is permission delegation, under the PermissionDelegationV1_1 amendment. It has secured 82% support and has entered its waiting period, with activation scheduled for 5 October 2026. It allows organisations to delegate account permissions to third-party services or departments without revealing the primary private key.
Both features are expected to support institutional-grade account management. Validators are also gathering votes for the related fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment, which is needed to stabilise AMM pools in the recent xrpld v3.4.0 software release.
The corporate push comes alongside the return of technical expertise. Nik Bougalis, a key cryptographer and Ripple pioneer who left the project in 2022, has officially returned to work on the XRPL core. In his high-level plan, he has proposed a substantial overhaul of the ledger's low-level architecture, moving the network to 64-bit components and eliminating raw pointers to improve security ahead of potential institutional demand.
Atomic batches and delegation
U.Today notes that activating these features in the code creates a foundation rather than an immediate influx of liquidity. The pace at which major fintech companies incorporate the tools into real products will determine whether the upgrade becomes a driver of long-term demand for XRP.
