Cookie Notice
What gets stored on your device when you read InvestIn.News, who sets it, and how to remove it.
The Short Version
We set no cookies of our own for readers; Google Analytics, which counts our visits, sets cookies of its own unless you press No thanks (in Europe, the UK, Switzerland and India, or wherever we cannot tell where you are, only if you press Accept). Small entries are kept in your browser’s local storage: your theme, if you choose one, your answer to our cookie notice, a note of how the site’s banner slots are set up, the last coin prices your browser saw, for the price ticker, and your saved stories, if you save any, with two one-line notes about saving and alerts. Short-lived notes in the tab make sure a story you open, and your visit, are counted once, keep your place in lists for this visit, and remember whether you paused the price ticker. We count story views ourselves as anonymous daily totals, Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits in aggregate, without cookies, and Google Analytics counts visits with its own cookies (see Third Parties). There are no advertising trackers. Outlet pictures shown with a story are always fetched and resized by our own server, so the outlet does not see you; only a booked banner’s picture, and some logos, may load from the advertiser’s or outlet’s own server. A story with a video loads its player from YouTube, Instagram or LinkedIn only when you press play; these services then see your IP address, and the video players may set cookies of their own.
What We Store
| Name | Type | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_<id> | Cookie (Google Analytics) | Set by Google Analytics to tell one visit from another and count visits, pages read and where readers came from. Removed when you press No thanks, and not set again; not set if your browser sends Global Privacy Control, or, in Europe, the UK, Switzerland and India, or wherever we cannot tell where you are, until you press Accept. Not used for advertising. | Up to 13 months |
| iv2 | Local storage | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. Only written when you use the theme switch, and removed when you switch back to your system’s own theme. Stored in your browser, never sent to us. | Until you clear it |
| iv_consent | Local storage | Records whether you pressed Accept or No thanks (Reject) on the cookie notice (No thanks means nothing of Google’s loads), so we stop asking. Stored in your browser, never sent to us. After 6 months we show the notice again. | Until you clear it |
| iv-ads | Local storage | Remembers how the site’s banner slots are set up (switched off, or booked), so the next page can lay them out before it loads instead of flashing a placeholder. Written on your first visit; holds nothing about you. Stored in your browser, never sent to us. | Until you clear it |
| iv-px | Local storage | The last coin prices your browser saw and when, so the price ticker shows them straight away instead of empty boxes while new prices load. Holds nothing about you. Stored in your browser, never sent to us. | Until you clear it |
| iv-votes | Local storage | Your bullish or bearish votes on NewsFeeds flashes, if you vote (the flash and your vote, the last 300 only), so each flash shows the vote you gave and you are not asked again. Never sent to us; the vote itself is counted as described in the Privacy Policy. | Until you clear your browser’s site data |
| iv-saved | Local storage | Your saved stories, if you press Save on any: each story’s address, headline, picture and when you saved it, so Saved stories can list them. Stored in your browser only, never sent to us; Remove on that page, or clearing your browser’s site data, deletes it. | Until you remove it |
| iv-v:<story>, iv-c:<story> | Session storage | Notes that you opened a story (or followed its link to the original article) in this tab, so it is counted once in our anonymous view totals. Holds only the story’s address; never sent to us as an identifier. | Until you close the tab |
| iv-sy:<page>, and other names starting iv- | Session storage | Notes kept only for this visit: your place in lists and pages, so Back and Forward return you to where you were (each holds a page’s address, which on the search page includes your search words, and a number), and a one-time note that you pressed Back (iv-sy-pop). Stored in your browser, never sent to us. | Until you close the tab |
| iv-saved-told, iv-push-sent | Local storage | Notes that we have told you where saved stories go (so the note shows once), and when your breaking-alerts subscription was last confirmed with us (so it is sent again at most once a day). Hold only a yes or a time. | Until you clear your browser’s site data |
| iv-cr | Session storage | A note of whether our cookie notice has to wait for your Accept before Google Analytics may load on this visit (1 for yes, 0 for no), taken from the country our servers see for your connection, so the question is asked once a tab. Holds only a 1 or a 0; the country is not stored. | Until you close the tab |
| iv-src | Session storage | Notes that this visit’s first page has been counted in our anonymous “where readers came from” totals, so it is counted once. Holds only a yes. | Until you close the tab |
| iv-tape | Session storage | Remembers that you paused the scrolling price ticker, for this tab only. Stored in your browser, never sent to us. | Until you close the tab |
| iin-static-v2, iin-pages-v1 | Service worker cache | Copies of our own style sheet, scripts, fonts, logos and icons, and of the last 30 pages you read, kept by the site’s offline helper so pages load faster and open without a connection. A search results page you open is kept like any other page, with your search words in its address; the NewsRoom and what you send through our forms are never kept. Never sent to us. | Until the site updates it or you clear the site’s data |
| Push subscription | Browser push permission, only if you turn on breaking alerts | Lets us send the breaking-news alerts you asked for. Your browser keeps the permission and its push keys; we keep the push address and keys (see the Privacy Policy), with no name or email. | Until you turn alerts off, which deletes our copy at once |
| __Host-nr_session (nr_session until 28 October 2026) | Cookie, staff only | Keeps our own staff signed in to the NewsRoom, where we run the site. Readers never receive it. | 7 days, renewed while in use |
| nr_dev | Cookie, staff only | Recognises a device that has signed in to the NewsRoom before, so our staff’s sign-in stays secure. Sent only to the NewsRoom sign-in page. Readers never receive it. | 400 days |
Third Parties
Our typeface is served from our own site, and the only third-party scripts on our pages are Cloudflare Web Analytics, Google Analytics and, on the contact and booking forms only, Cloudflare Turnstile; a story with a video also loads the video service’s player once you press play, and an interactive chart or table in a story may load code from other sites. These third-party requests happen:
- Visit counts - Cloudflare Web Analytics loads a small script from Cloudflare that counts visits in aggregate. It sets no cookies and builds no profile of you.
- Google Analytics - loads a script from googletagmanager.com that counts visits, the pages read and where readers came from, and sets the _ga cookies above. Its advertising features are off. No thanks turns it off and removes its cookies; it does not load if your browser sends Global Privacy Control, and in Europe, the UK, Switzerland and India, or wherever we cannot tell where you are, it waits until you press Accept.
- Spam check on our forms - when it is switched on, Cloudflare Turnstile loads a small script from challenges.cloudflare.com on the contact and booking forms only, to tell a person from a bot. It may set a Cloudflare security cookie for that check; it is not used for advertising or to follow you between sites.
- Prices and odds - CoinGecko (prices) and Kalshi (Fed-decision odds) are asked by our server, never by your browser, so they receive nothing about you.
- Images - outlet pictures shown with a story are always fetched and resized by our own server and served from investin.news. A booked banner’s picture, and a logo or press-coverage picture an editor has linked from another site, may load from that site’s server, which receives your IP address and browser details.
- Videos and posts - a story with a video or post from YouTube, Instagram or LinkedIn shows a play button. Only when you press it does that service’s player load from its servers (for YouTube, through youtube-nocookie.com, run by Google); the service then receives your IP address and browser details, and may set its own cookies or similar storage, under its own policy. Before you press play nothing loads from the service: a YouTube video’s preview picture is served from our own site.
- Interactive charts and tables - a story may show an interactive chart, table or widget we made or uploaded (an HTML embed). It loads with the story, without a click. It runs walled off from our site, so it cannot read our cookies or your browser’s storage or act as a page of ours, but it may load code or data from other sites (for example a charting library), which then receive your IP address and browser details, as with any content on the web.
Cloudflare, which runs our servers, may set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance) if it ever needs to check that a visit is not automated. It is used only for that check.
If we ever add a further analytics partner or an advertising partner, it will be named here before it is switched on; in Europe, the UK, Switzerland and India any partner that sets cookies or follows you between sites will stay off until you agree to it.
Removing What We Store
Clear this site’s data in your browser settings. The site will still work, but it will forget your theme and show the cookie notice again. Clearing it also removes the offline helper’s copies; to stop breaking alerts, press “Breaking alerts on” on any page, or block notifications for investin.news in your browser settings. Anything a video player stored is listed in your browser settings under that service’s own site, and can be removed there.
