The Crypto Fear & Greed Index is a daily score from 0 to 100 published by Alternative.me. A low score means the market is fearful and a high score means it is greedy. Alternative.me builds it from several inputs, including price volatility, market momentum and volume, social media activity, bitcoin’s share of the market and search trends, and explains the method on its own site.
How to read it. Read it as a mood gauge, not a forecast. Compare today’s score with yesterday, last week and last month, and use the provider’s own label (such as Fear or Greed), shown beside each reading. A score near either end shows how one-sided sentiment is; it does not say what prices do next.
Total crypto market cap is the combined value of all the coins a data provider tracks: each coin’s price multiplied by its circulating supply, added together. Providers track different sets of coins, so their totals differ.
How to read it. Use the 24-hour change to see whether the market as a whole is rising or falling, and the 24-hour volume to see how much traded. Where the source changes inside a period, the values before and after it may not be comparable.
Bitcoin dominance is bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market cap, in percent: bitcoin’s market cap divided by the market cap of all the coins the provider tracks. The ether share and the stablecoin share are shown beside it where the provider lists them.
How to read it. A rising share means bitcoin is growing faster than the rest of the market, or the rest is falling faster; a falling share means the reverse. Stablecoins are counted in the total, so growth in their supply lowers every other coin’s share.
The Altcoin Season Index measures how many of the top 100 coins by market value, leaving out stablecoins and wrapped or staked tokens, did better than bitcoin over a set window, as a percentage. The standard window is 90 days.
How to read it. A score of 75 or more is called Altcoin Season and 25 or less is called Bitcoin Season; anything between is neutral. It counts the past window only and is not a forecast. The window and the source are stated beside each reading.
The Federal Reserve sets a target range for the federal funds rate, the rate at which banks lend to each other overnight. This page shows the upper bound of the range, the effective rate actually paid, and the decision days of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).
How to read it. A cut lowers the target range, a hike raises it, and no change leaves it where it is. The decision day is the second day of each FOMC meeting. What markets expect is separate from the decision itself: for upcoming meetings this page shows market-implied odds from Kalshi prediction-market prices when Kalshi answers, and otherwise links to CME’s FedWatch Tool instead. They are traders’ pricing, not our forecast, and can change quickly.
The Federal Reserve’s balance sheet is the total of the assets it holds, mainly Treasury securities and mortgage-backed securities. The Fed publishes it every week in its H.4.1 statistical release, usually on Thursdays around 16:30 US Eastern time.
How to read it. Falling total assets mean the Fed is shrinking its balance sheet (often called quantitative tightening); rising assets mean it is adding to it. Reserve balances are what banks hold at the Fed. The Treasury general account is the US government’s own account there, and when it grows, reserves usually fall.
The 10-year Treasury yield is the annual return on US government debt that matures in ten years, quoted as a constant-maturity daily close and published by the Federal Reserve through FRED (series DGS10). The 2-year (DGS2) and 30-year (DGS30) yields and the gap between the 10-year and the 2-year (T10Y2Y) are shown with it.
How to read it. When yields rise, bond prices fall, and the reverse. The 10s-2s spread is the 10-year yield minus the 2-year yield; when it is negative, short-term yields are above long-term ones, which is called an inverted yield curve.
Each section has its own page: Fear & Greed Index, Bitcoin Dominance, Altcoin Season Index, Fed Rate Path, Fed Balance Sheet, 10-Year Treasury Yield, Stablecoin Supply, Crypto Options, Top Gainers and Losers, Top 100 Coins.
It is a daily sentiment score from 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed), published by Alternative.me and shown here with its source and time.
It is bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market cap, in percent, from the data provider named on the reading.
The Altcoin Season Index measures how many of the top 100 coins by market value, leaving out stablecoins and wrapped or staked tokens, did better than bitcoin over a set window, as a percentage. The standard window is 90 days. It shows the 90-day reading, the standard window for this index, from CoinMarketCap.
Fear & Greed comes from Alternative.me. Total market cap and bitcoin dominance come from CoinGecko. The Altcoin Season Index comes from CoinMarketCap. The Fed figures come from the Federal Reserve through FRED. Crypto figures are refreshed about every 30 minutes (the Altcoin Season Index hourly) and the Fed figures about hourly; figures may be delayed and are never execution prices.
Interest rates change what cash and bonds pay, so changes in the rate path, or expectations of them, have often coincided with moves in crypto and other risk assets. The link is not fixed, and this page does not predict prices.
