What is Proof of Work?

Proof of Work: a crypto term, explained in plain English.

In one line

A way for a blockchain to agree on new blocks where miners compete to solve a hard maths puzzle using computing power. Bitcoin uses it.

In simple words

Imagine a contest where everyone tries to guess a secret number by trying again and again. The first to get it wins a prize and writes the next page of the notebook.

That guessing work is proof of work.

The technical side

Miners repeatedly hash a block header with different numbers until the result is below a target set by the network’s difficulty. Finding a valid answer takes huge amounts of computing, but checking it is instant. The winner adds the block and earns the block reward plus fees.

Because rewriting history would mean redoing all that work, proof of work makes Bitcoin very hard to attack, at the cost of high electricity use.

Proof of Work kya hai?

Proof of work mein miners computer se ek mushkil puzzle solve karte hain. Jo pehle solve kare, wahi agla block banata hai aur inaam leta hai.
